Furniture Tips
Unlike laminates and plastics, solid wood furniture will respond to changes in temperature and humidity by expanding or contracting. These "movements" are natural and are to be expected. Make every effort to place your furniture away from sources of direct heat including registers and wood stoves. The drying that will occur can cause your solid wood furniture to split or work loose at joints and will void your warranty. During the winter heating months we strongly recommend the use of a humidifier to maintain humidity in the home between 35%-55%.
If you need to move your furniture, take care to lift the pieces instead of pushing or dragging. Failure to do so causes stress on joints and feet and will void your warranty.
Tabletop finishes are alcohol and water-resistant. Please allow the finish to dry (cure) for 21 days prior to heavy usage. Avoid hot coffee cups and long exposure to water during this time. Once your finish is cured it will stand the test of time. Simply wipe with a damp cloth after each use. Beyond this, we recommend Guardsman furniture polish for cleaning. Quality lemon oil will also prevent drying of the finish and can be applied annually. Avoid the use of silicone polishes.
